Far Cry 5 Preview by Gadgets 360

Announced just prior to E3 2017, Far Cry 5 is the latest installment in Ubisoft’s long-running open-world shooter franchise. Set in Montana, USA, you’re charged with taking down a doomsday cult called Eden’s Gate. It's not exactly the most exotic of locales.

Past entries like Far Cry 4 took us to Nepal, and Far Cry Primal threw up a rather impressive rendition of the Stone Age. Far Cry 2 had you braving malaria and arms dealers in war-torn Africa. It made us wonder if Ubisoft was phoning it in with Far Cry 5.

Far Cry 5 boss shows pitch for new game about a misplaced space teddy

Far Cry 5 director Dan Hay has pitched a potential new game project, featuring a misplaced space teddy bear, during his developer lecture at the British Academy of Film and television. The question is, will it end up becoming into a real game?

Hay, who's variously been producer, executive producer and creative director on the Far Cry series since Far Cry 3, was presenting a talk entitled 'Rooted in Reality - How the real world can make your creativity soar', which broadly discussed how recognisable real-world experiences can be used to create games that are better, more impactful, and more affecting to players.

Namely, his childhood teddy bear, the tale of Prometheus, and his fascination with space travel: "I want to retell the story of Prometheus, giving that key moment of thought but I want to replace f…

How co-op works in Far Cry 5

As soon as you complete Far Cry 5's tutorial, you can play the open-world shooter co-op online with a friend, Ubisoft has said.

You can play through the entire campaign in co-op. Your Friend for Hire appears as a custom player character and can fight alongside you throughout the game, dropping in and out with full voice-chat support.

You can share ammo and health packs, and can even turn on friendly fire if you fancy living dangerously.

It's worth noting, however, that only the host can accept missions, recruit and command Guns for Hire and keep the progress made in the world. Your friend keeps all their progression as a player, and retains any cash, guns, perks or loot they earn (except items unlocked by missions).

Usefully, Far Cry 5 keeps players together, teleporting one closer to the other if someone wanders too far away. Co-op is restricted to players from your friends list, with no random matchmaking. And of course you can turn the feature off entirely if you'd pref…
